How To Cutify

Definition of "Cutify" (Cute-i-fy) - to doll something up and make it CUTE.

Back in the Day… Before TikTok, Before Pinterest

Let me take you back to the 1980s.

This was the era before TikTok tutorials and Pinterest boards, before “DIY” was even a term. Back then, if you wanted your outfit to stand out, you didn’t click “add to cart” — you grabbed a pair of scissors.

We Cutified everything.

Necklines got slashed into off-the-shoulder glam. Baggy tees turned into midriff magic. Sweatshirts lost their hems so they could hang just right. Sometimes we’d add fringe, knots, beads, or even safety pins (Le Safety Pin, anyone?) to take it over the top.

And the best part? No two Cutified creations were ever the same. Your style was yours, worn with pride — whether you were heading to the mall, cruising with friends, or dancing the night away under a mirror ball.

Now, I’m bringing it back.

Because Cutifying isn’t just about fabric — it’s about attitude. It’s about taking something ordinary and making it uniquely yours. And just like in the 80s, there are no rules — only creativity, confidence, and a little bit of daring.

So grab a shirt from the SoCal Life by the Beach collection and let’s make it Cutified. Your inner 80s rebel will thank you.

Your Cutify Starter Guide

What You’ll Need:

  • A shirt you love (or one you’re ready to make lovable)

  • Sharp fabric scissors

  • Optional: chalk or fabric marker for tracing

  • Your creativity (and maybe a little 80s playlist for inspiration 🎶)

Basic Steps:

  1. Pick Your Style – Choose your vibe. Do you want flirty? Edgy? Totally retro?

  2. Mark It Out – Lightly outline where you’ll cut so there are no oops moments.

  3. Snip, Don’t Rip – Clean cuts make all the difference.

  4. Try It On – Adjust as you go to get that perfect drape or fit.

  5. Add the Extras – Knots, fringe, beads, or even a Le Safety Pin for some attitude.
